Echo Mountain discounted 2008-2009 season pass, $149

Opening day is still to be determined at, Echo Mountain, one of Denver's closest parks. But, the mountain recently discounted its season pass. From reader, David: "Echo’s deal is the [$149] season pass. Nothing else is close. It has a nice intermediate hill that’s great for improving riders and skiers. No real green runs or true extreme areas but some trees. If you live close and don’t have a season pass elsewhere it’s the best deal by far. They have lights and are open up till 9 p.m." Click here to take advantage of this sweet deal.

Winter Park is opening tomorrow morning at 9 AM and both Eldora and Echo Mountain will be open this weekend. These three are local favorites for two very different reasons, Winter Park offers the terrain we call Mary Jane. Eldora and Echo are both close and easy. If you’re heading up, let @cosnow know how it goes.

A few quick thoughts on the new Gondola at River Run in Keystone. 1) Moving it closer (away from the slope) is nice. 2) The mid-mountain station is great because beginners always struggle with that last chunk of the hill and can down-load. 3) No ‘gear racks’ attached to the cabins, maybe that’s coming soon but its crowded ride (with 8 people). 4) Overall, the gondola is a great improvement to the resort. Click here for a few pictures of the insane lines on opening day.

Discussion on the new Keystone gondola today prompted an interesting bit of trivia: it costs resorts anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000 to make snow for the super pipes (half-pipes) in Colorado.
