  1. Beaver Creek (12/10/2011)

Saturday was a great day to be on the mountain: perfect temperatures, not too crowded, and some decent “early season” conditions. Rachel and I headed up to Beaver Creek early in the morning and hopped on one of the first chairs at Centennial (#6). When we got to the top we grabbed a quick EpicMix…

  2. Keystone 2011/11/20

It was a fun day up in Summit County. It’s early season so there’s no traffic, Dillon seems still quieter than usual and the lifties won’t let you on until 9 AM. We used our first day as a dry run to work out all the kinks: adding the ski rack on the roof, making…

  4. Vail resorts announces EpicMix Photo

Vail Resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone) has announced their technology plans for the second iteration of their popular pass-based technology: EpicMix Photo. RFID-enabled passes I remember when resorts were first trying out RFID-enabled passes: the ones with the chips in them that, with special scanners, can be picked up when you get close to…

  5. Warren Miller "Wintervention" film premiere next week in Denver

    WinterventionSTATIC300x250

Do you have a skiing or snowboarding problem? Do you always take “just one more” run? If you answered “yes” to either of these, it may be time for a Wintervention. Narrated by skiing icon Jonny Moseley, Warren Miller’s Wintervention is the definitive solution for the snow-obsessed. Wintervention takes riders like Chris Davenport, Jonny Moseley and Lindsey Vonn on a global tour of Alaska, Norway, Canada, Antarctica and beyond… delivering a successful Wintervention for all of us in need. Warren Miller films attract a cult-like following and mark the official start of winter for sports enthusiasts everywhere. Warren Miller premieres are an experience, a party and a phenomenon not to be missed.

  6. Starting the season: waxing skis with Swix Alpine Kit

Before heading up for the first time, I always recommend waxing your skis or board. Surprisingly, most people I talk to don’t do any waxing despite it being a quick 30 minute ordeal. Waxing is important because it adds a layer of protection between the ski surface and the snow. Plus, if you don’t wax your skis you’ll see an amazing improvement in speed and performance next time you head out.

  9. Keystone 1/16/10

It’s fairly easy to sum up the conditions in Summit County lately: Spring weather with Fall snow and February crowds. In other words, it’s unseasonably warm, beautiful blue skies, temperatures upwards of 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit, a base of 20-30 inches, and too many people headed to the hills on the weekend. From Skiing at Keystone…

  10. Keystone (November 7, 2009)

Keystone had opened just this Thursday (check the excellent write-up of opening day over at Snowboarder Guide) and so we decided to check out opening weekend. It sounds like it was busy on Thursday and it surely was twice as busy today (Saturday). The drive up is really nice this time of the year and…

  11. 2008 Bacardi World Pond Skimming Championships

Let me be frank: the event was a splash! Joking aside I had fun last weekend up at Vail. Bacardi invited both myself and Rachel to attend the Bacardi World Pond Skimming Championships. If you’re not clear on what this event is: a bunch of people ski and snowboard down a hill, one at a…

If you’re an awesome photographer or have found yourself capturing some excellent photographs this winter season you need to do two things: Join Flickr: Put your pictures on my favorite photo community site and join the Colorado Snow group. Once you join the group and ‘send’ your pictures to the pool your pictures will show…
