Arapahoe Basin Archives

Often one of the first resorts to open in North America, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is located off Highway 6 just over the continental divide (near Loveland). A-Basin, as it’s often referred, is one of the member resorts included in Vail Resorts passes. Get official updates from Arapahoe Basin on Twitter.

  1. Free skiing for 5th and 6th graders at Vail Resorts →

Parents: you may not be aware that Vail Resorts offers a School of Shred Program: “The 11/12 School of Shred program provides 4 FREE days of skiing or riding at each of the state’s top-ranked resorts Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin for all Colorado fifth and sixth grade students who register by November 6, 2011.”

  2. First hints of snow appearing at Colorado resorts

We’ve found pictures from Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Winter Park and Breckenridge all showing hints of snow. Here we are just days after the Labor Day weekend and snow is already on the mind. We’re hoping to see much more very soon. In just a few weeks Loveland and Arapahoe Basin will likely begin making snow…

  4. Vail announces EpicMix, automatic RF tracking

    epic-mix

The season is already ramping up. Today Vail Resorts announced an awesome differentiator to the mix of resort offerings (this makes choosing a season pass in Colorado interesting) that can automatically track skier and snowboarder vertical feet skied and days on the mountain: EpicMix leverages radio frequency (RF) technology installed at each of the Company’s…

  5. Arapahoe Basin at The Tilted Kilt

    abasin-ice-luge-1

The largest Apres Ski party has kicked off in Denver this week. One of the coolest and newest sports pubs in Denver, The Tilted Kilt, is hosting Arapahoe Basin through Saturday. From SIA A-Basin and Tilted Kilt Enter to win gear at the hourly raffles (including t-shirts, hats, passes, and a snowboard), have a $5…

  6. Arapahoe Basin new quad lift

If you hadn’t heard, Arapahoe Basin is losing it’s “hard core” exterior and becoming “resortized” by Vail Resorts. With the parking upgrades and Montezuma Bowl lift, it’s hard to argue the resort isn’t trying to stay competitive with the major resorts. So, this summer A-Basin will be adding a high-speed quad lift to replace Exhibition…

  7. Arapahoe Basin 1/9/2010

The lack of snow in the majority of Colorado hills is quite unfortunate. Having visited A-Basin this past weekend, it became even more obvious how little we really have. Not only is Montezuma bowl closed, but the east wall is pure rock, and the west wall had just barely opened. If you were looking for…

  8. Upgrade Summit Pass or Colorado Pass

If you’re curious, yes, you can upgrade your Vail Resorts passes (Summit to Colorado or Epic, Colorado to Epic). I confirmed that you can upgrade even after the pass purchase deadline. I had opted for the lowest pass this season (Summit Pass: Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Breckenridge) but had a change in plans (days at Beaver…

  9. 2009/2010 Colorado resort opening days

Well, I said I wasn’t going to do it this year but I did. Frankly, I’m annoyed with 1) resort websites that don’t have their opening day listed front and center (not even CSCUSA) and 2) other websites claiming dates that are flat out incorrect. So, I have hand-verified each of the dates listed below…

  10. Recession-proof pricing at Colorado resorts

The economy is in the toilet, we get it. Jobs are scarce, understood. These days we are all having to make tough decisions about where to spend our already limited discretionary dollars.

That said, Colorado has nearly a half million skiers and riders living in the state, and having world class skiing and riding in our back yards is one of the reasons many of us live here. That’s why this year, Colorado Ski Country resorts are working hard to come up with creative ways to make it easy to get some good skiing in this winter.

  11. Two For the Records

The Colorado ski season bounded to one of its earliest starts ever this season with Loveland Ski Area opening its chair lifts to skiers and riders on October 7th and Arapahoe Basin opening on October 9th. Loveland’s opening day of October 7th is the earliest the resort has opened in 40 years and Arapahoe Basin’s…

  12. Loveland officially opens 2009/2010 season

Wow, opening over a week earlier than the previous season (and the earliest in 40 years), Loveland has officially opened the 2009/2010 season and is the first ski area to do so in North America. Through snowmaking, they’ve started the season with an 18-inch base. Arapahoe Basin, the annual competitor in the #RaceToOpen (Twitter hashtag…

  13. Employees banned from using Playboy snowboards

A new line of snowboards called ‘Love’ from Burton have nearly-nude models on them and Vail Resorts, Winter Park, and Echo Mountain (so far) have prohibited employees from riding on them. Sure it’s common sense. Even though they aren’t preventing guests (and off-the-clock employees) from using them, I wonder how long until someone makes a…

  14. Resort Improvement Roundup 2008

We’ve seen a lot of new stuff heading towards the mountains this season. Here’s a quick peek at some of the highlights on the slopes: Arapahoe Basin 300 new parking spots added Tunnel under Hwy 6 to connect parking and the slopes, safely Buses to bring people down from the upper lots Black Mountain lodge…
