Keystone Archives

A member of Vail Resorts, Keystone is one of the closer resorts to Denver, just off I-70 at the Silverthorne/Dillon exist (about 2 hours drive with traffic from Denver). The entire resort is designed for families and experts alike with easy and intermediate skiing on the front, dedicated lesson areas including “magic carpets”, and plenty of advanced “outback” skiing. The ice skating rink makes for a fun day off the hill.

  1. Keystone (1/7/2012)

We took a bit of a break and hadn’t been up for nearly a month due to work, holidays, sickness and.. well, the fact there has been absolutely no new snow along the I-70 corridor (Vail, Beaver Creek, Summit County). We decided to make a weekend out of it and headed up to Keystone on…

  3. Flying to Colorado ski areas and resorts

  5. Keystone 2011/11/20

It was a fun day up in Summit County. It’s early season so there’s no traffic, Dillon seems still quieter than usual and the lifties won’t let you on until 9 AM. We used our first day as a dry run to work out all the kinks: adding the ski rack on the roof, making…

  6. Today is the big day for two big resorts in Colorado. The 2011/2012 seasons kicks off this morning at Copper Mountain and Keystone. If you’re headed up send us your photos and we’ll get them posted!

  12. Vail resorts announces EpicMix Photo

    EpicMix photographer

Vail Resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone) has announced their technology plans for the second iteration of their popular pass-based technology: EpicMix Photo. RFID-enabled passes I remember when resorts were first trying out RFID-enabled passes: the ones with the chips in them that, with special scanners, can be picked up when you get close to…

  13. Colorado resorts open this weekend

If you weren’t one of the lucky that played hookie today to get in some opening day runs, then be sure to head up to the newly opened resorts this weekend. Two of the biggiest resorts, Copper Mountain and Keystone opened their seasons to crowds. Wolf Creek is now opening for the season, too. Worth…

    epic-mix

The season is already ramping up. Today Vail Resorts announced an awesome differentiator to the mix of resort offerings (this makes choosing a season pass in Colorado interesting) that can automatically track skier and snowboarder vertical feet skied and days on the mountain: EpicMix leverages radio frequency (RF) technology installed at each of the Company’s…

  15. Keystone 1/24/10

It was so cold and so windy I didn’t take a single picture or enjoy much of the day. Although Summit had received a few inches by Sunday, it had all been blown off the slopes by Sunday morning. Everything was hard-packed, icy and wind-blown. I wish we had gone to Vail. Anyway, we did…

  16. Keystone 1/16/10

It’s fairly easy to sum up the conditions in Summit County lately: Spring weather with Fall snow and February crowds. In other words, it’s unseasonably warm, beautiful blue skies, temperatures upwards of 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit, a base of 20-30 inches, and too many people headed to the hills on the weekend. From Skiing at Keystone…

  17. Upgrade Summit Pass or Colorado Pass

If you’re curious, yes, you can upgrade your Vail Resorts passes (Summit to Colorado or Epic, Colorado to Epic). I confirmed that you can upgrade even after the pass purchase deadline. I had opted for the lowest pass this season (Summit Pass: Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Breckenridge) but had a change in plans (days at Beaver…

  18. Keystone (November 7, 2009)

Keystone had opened just this Thursday (check the excellent write-up of opening day over at Snowboarder Guide) and so we decided to check out opening weekend. It sounds like it was busy on Thursday and it surely was twice as busy today (Saturday). The drive up is really nice this time of the year and…

  19. 2009 Gatorade Free Flow Tour schedule announced

If you’re looking to get noticed this season, then put these dates in your calendar. The Gatorade Free Flow Tour will be stopping by Colorado not once, but twice this season. “Being able to bring amateurs in snowboarding and freeskiing the same stepping stone to the pros we offer skateboarders and BMX riders through the…

  20. Keystone opens 2009 early due to snow, others will follow?

Great snow conditions have prompted Keystone officials to open the slopes a day early. Keystone will now be opening on Thursday, November 5th at 9:00 AM. I’m guessing that the resorts that are slated to open Thanksgiving week (Beaver Creek, Crested Butte, Steamboat, Snowmass) will do the same so that out-of-towners and local vacationers can…
