Great snow conditions have prompted Keystone officials to open the slopes a day early. Keystone will now be opening on Thursday, November 5th at 9:00 AM. I’m guessing that the resorts that are slated to open Thanksgiving week (Beaver Creek, Crested Butte, Steamboat, Snowmass) will do the same so that out-of-towners and local vacationers can […]

A member of Vail Resorts, Keystone is one of the closer resorts to Denver, just off I-70 at the Silverthorne/Dillon exist (about 2 hours drive with traffic from Denver). The entire resort is designed for families and experts alike with easy and intermediate skiing on the front, dedicated lesson areas including “magic carpets”, and plenty of advanced “outback” skiing. The ice skating rink makes for a fun day off the hill.
2009/2010 Colorado resort opening days
Well, I said I wasn’t going to do it this year but I did. Frankly, I’m annoyed with 1) resort websites that don’t have their opening day listed front and center (not even CSCUSA) and 2) other websites claiming dates that are flat out incorrect. So, I have hand-verified each of the dates listed below […]
Did you realize you can get a season pass that includes your gear rental? A great option for beginners, check out the three equipment rental passes offered by Vail Resorts: Unlimited Sport Equipment ($359 beginner to intermediate), Unlimited Demo Equipment ($459 intermediate to expert), Unlimited Junior Equipment ($199 for 12 and under). These passes and […]
Keystone (2008-12-06)
I’ll be honest, the snow hasn’t been great in Summit County. It’s only been in the last few weeks that we’ve seen a lot of fresh snow up there. This was the first “real” day of skiing for me (opening weekend was just for practice). We headed up to Keystone on Friday night to catch […]
If you’ve been following the CoSnow events calendar you’d know tonight there is a free concert and party up at Keystone. Girl Talk will be performing and we’ll be there for it! BONUS: the first e-mail to [email protected] will get TWO free night ski tickets, tonight only. Hurry, our Twitter friends have a 10 minute […]
A new line of snowboards called ‘Love’ from Burton have nearly-nude models on them and Vail Resorts, Winter Park, and Echo Mountain (so far) have prohibited employees from riding on them. Sure it’s common sense. Even though they aren’t preventing guests (and off-the-clock employees) from using them, I wonder how long until someone makes a […]
Based on hotel bookings, Orbitz has compiled a list they call the Orbitz Ski Index. It actually surprised me to see Breckenridge so high on the list, beating out Banff and Whistler. But, of course, all the usual suspects are there: Vail, Aspen, Winter Park, etc. Sadly enough Copper Mountain didn’t make an appearance. Maybe […]
A few quick thoughts on the new Gondola at River Run in Keystone. 1) Moving it closer (away from the slope) is nice. 2) The mid-mountain station is great because beginners always struggle with that last chunk of the hill and can down-load. 3) No ‘gear racks’ attached to the cabins, maybe that’s coming soon […]
