We had a great first day at Beaver Creek this season. After snowing all Friday and receiving 10 inches of powder, we headed up over the Vail Pass on Saturday morning to be greeted with even more snow fall.
Ski Patrol started opening up a bunch of terrain Saturday morning and allowing access to fresh, powdery, gladed terrain on Bachelor Gulch. We had a few runs all to ourselves in the morning in knee-high snow.
We also headed to the Rose Bowl finding no lines and no crowds (on the Saturday before a holiday?!) and played all over through lunch.
We decided to visit the new Talons restaurant and were not disappointed. It’s a beautiful venue with lots (more) indoor seating. Even with the snow blowing sideways the crew was also outside grilling and serving up BBQ. We found the upstairs bar a bit small and overworked during the lunch rush.
After heading back to Bachelor Gulch and enjoying new powder in the aspens and pine trees we found ourselves needing a break to warm up around 2:30. We visited the umbrella bar at Mamie’s and had great service and a beautiful view of the nordic ski area out the huge windows.
Overall, we had an excellent day of skiing and I’m so pleased to have these kinds of conditions in December. Here’s hoping for more snow!

Man, I am jealous. You guys in Colorado are getting snow, and we have gotten jack out here in the Sierras. Come on – share a little eh? If I don’t get into some powder soon, I can’t be responsible for my actions. Have a great season there.
Thanks, Mark. Here’s hoping the weather turns around here for you in 2014 — enjoy it as much as you can!
