Red Tail Camp at Beaver Creek becomes Talons, Umbrella Bar moved

Sunny day at the umbrella bar at Red Tail Camp at Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek has built Talons to replace Red Tail Camp.

At the bottom confluence of Larkspur Bowl, Grouse Mountain and Birds of Prey a new European-inspired restaurant, Talons, will replace the ever-crowded Red Tail Camp. The name Talons obviously comes from this area of Beaver Creek which is home to the birds of prey (the actual birds and the expert trails named after them).

Talons will be 17,000 square feet with 500 indoor seats on two levels and 250 outdoor seats, more than doubling the previous capacity. The menu will feature gourmet dining options such as the Talons Kasseler Rippchen Casserole and Colorado Lamb Burger served in an upscale cafeteria setting.

The architecture will harken back to the early days of Beaver Creek with a barn exterior and post-and-beam construction. The new building will be located lower down the hill meaning no more kicking off your skis or snowboard and hiking up the hill (or creating a ‘field of gear’) if coming down from the Larkspur side.

Long Live Umbrella Bar

One of our favorite places to stop on a sunny afternoon was the Umbrella Bar at Red Tail Camp. Named after the huge umbrella at the center of the round bar that could open to cover the entire area (Steamboat Springs has one, too).

According to a recent photo on Facebook, the Umbrella Bar has been relocated to Mamie’s Mountain Grill and will live on at the top of Bachelor Gulch. Rest assured we’ll still have a nice, sunny patio to kick up our feet (and kick back some local brews) next season.
