Great news! It was only just a few years ago when Google first started equipping snowmobiles with their “Street View” cameras and mapping various resorts.
Now a new mountain-based effort has launched and ski resort maps are now on Google Maps. Just pull up the Google Maps app on your smartphone and you’ll see all the runs (including their difficulty) and lifts.
The initial set of maps includes the following Colorado resorts:
- Aspen Highlands
- Aspen Mountain
- Breckenridge
- Buttermilk
- Copper Mountain
- Crested Butte
- Snowmass
- Steamboat
- Telluride
- Vail
- Winter Park
When you zoom in close enough you’ll start to see the lifts appear as red dotted lines. When you get even closer you’ll see the solid green, blue, and black runs. Here is a shot from Copper Mountain showing the American Eagle and American Flyer lifts with Bouncer, Main View, Bittersweet, and Care Free:
If you turn on satellite view you’ll even get to the level of detail where you can see the various huts, grills, picnic tables, and clumps of trees. Here’s the same view but now I get a more interesting story when looking at the map:
Be sure to check it out yourself on Google Maps for Android and iPhone.
