Welcome to the 2010 ski and snowboard season in Colorado! Opening just days after the first resort to open* in North America, Loveland Ski Area has claimed the “first to open” title here in Colorado: Sunday, October 24, 2010. Following a day behind is, of course, Arapahoe Basin on Monday, October 25, 2010. Loveland and […]
2009/2010 Colorado resort opening days
Well, I said I wasn’t going to do it this year but I did. Frankly, I’m annoyed with 1) resort websites that don’t have their opening day listed front and center (not even CSCUSA) and 2) other websites claiming dates that are flat out incorrect. So, I have hand-verified each of the dates listed below […]
Recession-proof pricing at Colorado resorts
The economy is in the toilet, we get it. Jobs are scarce, understood. These days we are all having to make tough decisions about where to spend our already limited discretionary dollars.
That said, Colorado has nearly a half million skiers and riders living in the state, and having world class skiing and riding in our back yards is one of the reasons many of us live here. That’s why this year, Colorado Ski Country resorts are working hard to come up with creative ways to make it easy to get some good skiing in this winter.

A new line of snowboards called ‘Love’ from Burton have nearly-nude models on them and Vail Resorts, Winter Park, and Echo Mountain (so far) have prohibited employees from riding on them. Sure it’s common sense. Even though they aren’t preventing guests (and off-the-clock employees) from using them, I wonder how long until someone makes a […]
Based on hotel bookings, Orbitz has compiled a list they call the Orbitz Ski Index. It actually surprised me to see Breckenridge so high on the list, beating out Banff and Whistler. But, of course, all the usual suspects are there: Vail, Aspen, Winter Park, etc. Sadly enough Copper Mountain didn’t make an appearance. Maybe […]
Winter Park is one of the first resorts to roll out what we’ve all been waiting for: text message snow alerts straight to our cell phones. Choose between daily reports or powder alerts when Winter Park receives 5” of snow or more. To subscribe: text “wpsnow” to 20123 for daily alerts, or “wppowder” to 20123 […]
