Skied at Winter Park on January 1, 2017

Happy New Year! We had a beautiful blue-sky Sunday at Winter Park and it felt like we had it all to ourselves.

We started the New Year’s morning leaving Denver around 6:45 AM and saw no snow on the road nor traffic in front of us. The drive was smooth and we were up and over Berthoud Pass by 8 AM.

And we made it onto the Zephyr lift with no line just a few minutes after opening at 8:45 AM.

It felt like we had the entire ski area to ourselves all morning. Moving from Winter Park over to Vasquez Ridge we never stood in line for more than a few short seconds.

After a quick 7-run morning practicing some mogul turns and focusing on fundamentals, we treated ourselves to some nachos down at the base. Docs Roadhouse also (successfully) tempted us with their Cajun Bloody Mary.

That drink by itself is a snack for a hard day on the slopes…

Is Winter Park generally slower than other large resorts on New Years? Hope you have time to respond. We usually ski Summit County.

New Years Day itself is generally slow across all resorts. Winter Park doesn’t have the same draw for out-of-town tourists so is comparably “slower” than other summit resorts, in my experience.
