Keystone had opened just this Thursday (check the excellent write-up of opening day over at Snowboarder Guide) and so we decided to check out opening weekend. It sounds like it was busy on Thursday and it surely was twice as busy today (Saturday). The drive up is really nice this time of the year and […]

Great snow conditions have prompted Keystone officials to open the slopes a day early. Keystone will now be opening on Thursday, November 5th at 9:00 AM. I’m guessing that the resorts that are slated to open Thanksgiving week (Beaver Creek, Crested Butte, Steamboat, Snowmass) will do the same so that out-of-towners and local vacationers can […]
The Colorado ski season bounded to one of its earliest starts ever this season with Loveland Ski Area opening its chair lifts to skiers and riders on October 7th and Arapahoe Basin opening on October 9th. Wow, opening over a week earlier than the previous season (and the earliest in 40 years), Loveland has officially opened the 2009/2010 season and is the first ski area to do so in North America. Through snowmaking, they’ve started the season with an 18-inch base. Arapahoe Basin, the annual competitor in the #RaceToOpen (Twitter hashtag […]
Spring skiing delayed for 2009

Winter Park is one of the first resorts to roll out what we’ve all been waiting for: text message snow alerts straight to our cell phones. Choose between daily reports or powder alerts when Winter Park receives 5” of snow or more. To subscribe: text “wpsnow” to 20123 for daily alerts, or “wppowder” to 20123 […]
Discussion on the new Keystone gondola today prompted an interesting bit of trivia: it costs resorts anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000 to make snow for the super pipes (half-pipes) in Colorado.
Copper has decided that with all the snow falling (last night saw at least 8 inches!) they’re going to open a full week earlier. Copper will now open up on November 7th, only two Fridays away. For anyone worried about early season snow this year, fear not! Psst, get updates like this by following CoSnow […]
